Are Keyword Meta Tags Really Important for Video SEO?
Not all video SEO plans are going to work for you these days. Keyword meta tags are particularly one such thing that you have to avoid these days. While it’s true that such a tag might have worked for you in the past, the concern is that search engines are quickly changing in terms of what they can afford to take in.
Today’s search engines are not using keyword meta tags on their video entries as much as they used to. Today they take a closer look at the text that is visible. Therefore, when you submit your video to a database or you post it online, you will have to add plenty of text to go with the page that your video is on. For instance, you can add text through something like a title on the top of the page or even through a transcript on the video page. Adding a textual description to air at the bottom of a page helps too.
The reason why so many search engines don’t read these meta tags as much as in the past comes from how they have been abused in recent years. Many people have used invisible text to try and cheat the systems in their video SEO plans. This is especially with the belief that a video will be easy to access if more text is used.
However, people who use invisible text are often interpreted as spammers by many search engines. These engines will see that people are trying to post their stuff online by trying to add more keywords with random things in them just to try and cheat the system. The same can be said for meta tags as some people will add random keywords just to boost a video’s profile.
This does not mean that other tags cannot be used for your video SEO goals. You can still use a title and description tag for your videos. This is because the things listed in these tags may be used by search engines to describe your video. They won’t take in keyword meta tags but they will use these others for the convenient of people who want to see what sites are open before clicking on specific options.
Don’t forget to make the keywords you actually use relevant. Anything that isn’t relevant may harm your ranking as you may be interpreted as a spamming poster who want to link up to as many popular keywords as possible whether they’re necessary for your video marketing and SEO plans or not.
You need to be certain that you watch for how your post your keywords on a video. Posting them the wrong way or without thinking twice about what you are doing will only hurt as you may be called a spammer by some who see what you do to make your videos visible.
