Collaborative brainstorming can be as difficult as rewarding due to the flurry of different ideas and opinions flying around. If you’re looking to get the most out of your think tank, make sure you tap in to these industry secrets.

Be Open to All

Drive home that no idea is a bad idea. Just remember to uphold this by not shooting down or laughing at people’s suggestions. This will only cause group members to stop participating.

Compromise

Idea sharing is personal. We feel attacked if others don’t like our suggestion. That being said, people can still like a suggestion even though they see flaws they want to fix. So long as everyone compromises, middle ground can be reached.

Give Everyone Paper

Or space to write on. The long-pursued notion of one person taking notes while others shout ideas is antiquated. Certain brilliant minds hate trying to collaborate in that kind of environment. Provide them with their own easel, and you’ll have not trouble getting good ideas.

Go Beyond the Conference Room

When the official meeting is over, make sure the group knows that brainstorming is not. Allow them to brainstorm further on their own to see what kind of great notions emerge.

Our minds have a stronger connection to our written words and drawn diagrams than they do typed documents. Play to this by incorporating physical elements in the brainstorming session. This will allow deeper connections to be made and foster more creative concepts.
